Job summary

Charleston County Public Works Department is seeking motivated, safety-minded individuals to join our outdoor maintenance team.

As a Mosquito Control Technician, you will inspect breeding sites, operate ULV spray equipment, monitor water bodies, keep accurate records, and educate residents on prevention. The role requires readiness to work weekends/overtime during mosquito season and to report to work during hazards or emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Willingness to provide good customer service.
• Safety-minded and able to work in a demanding, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Have and maintain a valid SC Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
• Ability to obtain pesticide applicator’s license within 6 months.
• Available to report to work during hazardous weather or emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Inspect mosquito breeding sites in assigned areas for aquatic and adult stages.
• Operate a truck with a ULV pesticide sprayer to eliminate adult mosquitoes.
• Inspect and treat standing water for mosquito larvae.
• Monitor sampling devices and rain gauges; maintain records.
• Maintain accurate records and inventory of pesticides, adulticides and larvicides.
• Educate residents on how to reduce/prevent future mosquito breeding.
• Maintain clean and safe vehicles, lab, and chemical storage areas.
• Attend meetings as needed; familiarity with County geography is a plus.
