Job summary

Child Care Associates is seeking a Maintenance Groundskeeper to upkeep outdoor learning environments, support safety, and ensure licensing standards are met. You will perform inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance to keep playgrounds safe and welcoming for children, staff, and families.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and experience in maintenance or groundskeeping. A valid driver’s license with insurance is preferred; this role may involve driving on CCA business

Responsible for maintaining safe, functional, and visually welcoming outdoor learning environments by conducting routine inspections, performing repairs and preventative maintenance, addressing safety hazards, supporting landscaping and natural play areas, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and licensing standards through documentation, collaboration, and timely follow-up.

• Maintain all outdoor learning environments to ensure they are safe, functional, clean, and visually welcoming for children, staff, and families.
• Conduct routine inspections of outdoor learning environments to identify health, safety, and maintenance concerns, including surfacing, equipment, structures, fencing, gates, drainage, shade elements, and natural play features.
• Replenish and level engineered wood fiber mulch and other protective surfacing materials to maintain appropriate fall zones and reduce risk of injury.
• Identify and address erosion, uneven surfaces, exposed footings, raised edges, trip hazards, and other conditions that may affect the safety and usability of outdoor environments.
• Repair, replace, or remove damaged, weathered, rusted, rotted, warped, or splintered components of playground structures, sensory features, and outdoor learning materials.
• Monitor and maintain wooden structures and natural play elements through sanding, sealing, staining, and other preventative maintenance measures to extend usability and support safety.
• Inspect for pest-related concerns, including ants, termites, and other infestations that may damage outdoor structures or create unsafe conditions, and report issues for treatment or follow-up.
• Maintain outdoor landscaping and nature-based learning areas by removing dead plants and bushes, planting replacements, trimming vegetation, and supporting a safe and engaging outdoor environment.
• Inspect and maintain shade sails and other weather-related outdoor fixtures, addressing damage caused by wind, storms, or general wear and tear.
• Remove debris, hazardous materials, and unsafe items from outdoor areas promptly to support daily readiness and safe use by children.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance to identify, document, report, and help resolve playground and outdoor learning environment health and safety hazards, including timely follow-up on corrective actions to support compliance with child care licensing and program safety standards.
• Document maintenance needs, completed repairs, and unresolved concerns, and communicate timely updates to leadership and other appropriate departments.
• Provide general maintenance support as needed, including assisting maintenance technicians, replacing light bulbs, moving furniture or equipment, and transporting miscellaneous items.
• Support seasonal and emergency preparation for outdoor environments, including responding to weather-related impacts and helping ensure outdoor spaces remain safe and operational.
• Other duties as required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, playground upkeep, or related work preferred.
• Knowledge of basic repair, landscaping, and outdoor safety practices.
• Ability to identify hazards, complete routine repairs, and maintain safe outdoor environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Quality Assurance and site leadership.
• Ability to perform physical job duties and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Reliable, insured vehicle for work-related transportation.
  • Driving & Mileage Reimbursement (Frequent Driver): This position is classified as a Frequent Driver, meaning the employee is expected to drive their personal vehicle on CCA business multiple times per week or month. The employee must maintain a valid driver’s license, successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and provide proof of personal auto insurance meeting minimum liability limits. HR approval as a cleared driver is required prior to claiming mileage reimbursement in accordance with CCA policy.
• Must meet all health and safety requirements, including:
  • Passing a pre-employment and/or periodic physical exam
  • Annual TB screening
  • Background check and renewals as required
