Job summary

Washoe County School District is seeking a Groundskeeper I to perform routine landscape, groundskeeping and athletic field maintenance across district facilities, following safety rules and district standards. The role requires physical endurance and ability to operate lawn care equipment, perform minor repairs and support outdoor projects.

Work shifts may include early morning, day or evening hours, and the position offers benefits consistent with district policies.

Qualifications

• Six months of landscaping or ground keeping experience as a typical requirement.
• Knowledge of basic gardening, pruning and landscaping methods and materials; use of tools, machinery and equipment; and lawn irrigation systems.
• Skill at working independently; following oral and written instructions; performing heavy manual labor under adverse conditions; reading blueprints; maintaining effective working relationships.
• Licenses/Certificates: Nevada driver license (or ability to obtain) with acceptable driving record.
• Certification: AHERA 16 Hour asbestos training; OSHA Lead Action Training; to be completed within specified timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Plants, mows, trims, weeds, fertilizes and irrigates lawns, flower beds and fields; cuts and lays sod; trims shrubs, hedges and trees.
• Sprays flowers and shrubs with insecticides; cleans and repairs or replaces sprinkler heads; assists in installing or repairing sprinkler systems.
• Repairs fences, posts and signs; patches asphalt; paints traffic and parking marks on curbs and lots.
• Assembles, installs, safety checks and repairs playground and athletic equipment; resurfaces and marks tracks and fields.
• Operates mowers, tractors and related equipment; loads and transports equipment and supplies; performs preventative maintenance.
