Job summary

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) is seeking a GIS Field Technician to collect field data for GIS databases, primarily outdoors. You will operate with GPS technology to inventory utility assets for cities and utility companies, often in varied terrain and weather, with travel across the continental US.

The role requires walking long distances, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing up to 10 hours; you will collaborate with crews, interpret drawings, and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two to four year degree in GIS, Geography, Surveying or related field is a plus.
• Knowledge of utilities, GPS, and/or GIS preferred.
• Ability to travel for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Acquire field data for GIS database implementation.
• Travel to various sites across the continental US; willingness to travel.
• Interpret record drawings to navigate project areas with confidence.
• Collaborate with crew members and project management professionally.
• Communicate effectively with client representatives at project locations.
• Follow all safety procedures and dress codes; perform other duties as assigned.
