Job summary

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking personnel to assist with dock installations, navigation aids placement, and outdoor maintenance tasks in various weather conditions. Duties include operating boats and heavy equipment, cleaning facilities, carpentry, roofing, and minor plumbing while adhering to PPE standards.

Candidates must have a NYS driver’s license, be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and be prepared to work in remote outdoor locations and winter

Qualifications

• One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or two years in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation.
• Must have a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for operating the vehicle type.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must work outside in winter and remote areas.
• Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercraft.
• Hazardous tree removal and barge maintenance experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in dock installation and removal and Navigation aids placement.
• Operate boats, trailer equipment, tractors, plow trucks, loaders, chippers and other machines safely.
• Perform cleaning of toilets/bathroom facilities, build outhouses and picnic tables, minor carpentry, roofing, painting, and minor plumbing.
• Use PPE; keep issued clothing and safety gear clean and presentable.
• Perform hazardous tree removal and barge maintenance as needed.
• Drive and operate state vehicles in accordance with Department policy.
