Job summary

Lansing School District seeks an Environmental Education & Stewardship Coordinator to lead outdoor learning programs and long-term conservation at the 238-acre Ebersole Environmental Education Center, serving thousands of students annually.

The role combines education delivery, habitat restoration, community partnerships, and staff/volunteer supervision, with a focus on equitable, experiential learning in diverse environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Education, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, Forestry, Parks and Recreation, or related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in environmental education, conservation, land management, or outdoor education.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate, and facilitate high-quality environmental education programs for PreK–12 students aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and NGSS.
• Lead day field trips, overnight experiences, summer camps, family programs, and community events.
• Develop engaging curriculum that integrates environmental science, ecology, sustainability, literacy, and SEL.
• Foster inquiry-based, place-based, and experiential learning that encourages environmental stewardship and critical thinking.
• Create educational materials, teacher resources, interpretive signage, and assessment tools.
• Support classroom teachers through professional development and outdoor learning coaching.
• Evaluate programs to ensure continuous improvement and meaningful student outcomes.
