Job summary

Lansing School District in Wayland, MI is seeking an Environmental Education & Stewardship Coordinator to design and lead high-quality programs for PreK–12 students, aligned with NGSS, and to supervise land management on Ebersole’s 238-acre property.

The role partners with universities and conservation groups, coordinates volunteers and interns, secures grants, and ensures safety and compliance while fostering equity and experiential learning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field as listed in qualifications.
• Minimum of three years of experience in environmental education, conservation, land management, or outdoor education.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Certified Interpretive Guide or equivalent (Preferred).
• Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder (Preferred).
• Experience with habitat restoration, invasive species management, GIS, grant management, and volunteer coordination (Preferred).
• Experience supervising seasonal or volunteer staff (Preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of Michigan ecosystems, wildlife, native plants, and conservation practices.
• Knowledge of environmental education pedagogy and child development.
• Strong NGSS knowledge and inquiry-based instruction.

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate, and facilitate environmental education programs for PreK–12 students aligned with Michigan standards and NGSS.
• Lead day field trips, camps, family programs, and community events.
• Develop engaging curriculum integrating science, ecology, sustainability, literacy, and SEL.
• Foster inquiry-based and place-based learning to promote stewardship and critical thinking.
• Create educational materials, teacher resources, signage, and assessments.
• Support teachers with professional development and outdoor learning coaching.
• Evaluate programs to ensure meaningful student outcomes.
• Develop and implement annual land stewardship plans for Ebersole’s 238-acre property.
• Monitor ecological health of wetlands, forests, prairies, and aquatic habitats.
• Coordinate invasive species management and native habitat restoration.
• Plan reforestation, prairie restoration, pollinator habitat, and wetlands improvements.
• Maintain trails, outdoor classrooms, boardwalks, and interpretive infrastructure.
• Coordinate volunteers, interns, AmeriCorps members, and seasonal staff.
• Develop partnerships with universities, conservation groups, local governments, and community groups.
• Assist with grant writing, fundraising, and stewardship projects.
• Represent Ebersole and Lansing School District at conferences and events.
