Job summary

Penn State Arboretum offers paid internships for undergraduates, graduates, and recent graduates in environmental education. Positions are part-time (20-30 hours/week) for 17 weeks (Jan 11–May 7, 2027), with most activities 8:30 am–4:30 pm on weekdays; some evenings/weekends required.

Interns will work with Youth and Family Programs, develop and facilitate nature-based programs, and gain experience in field trip facilitation, lesson planning, volunteer management, and donor support.

Qualifications

• Applicants should be currently enrolled in or recent graduates from an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
• Strong interest in environmental education is desired.

Responsibilities

• Develop, facilitate, and evaluate outdoor learning experiences, educational activities, lesson plans, and programs.
• Embrace a growth mindset by demonstrating critical thinking, taking on leadership roles, and seeking opportunities for professional engagement.
• Enroll in a mandatory 9-week non-credit Canvas course to support reflection on experiential learning.
