Job summary

Flat Rock instructors deliver day and residential outdoor/environmental education programs to 4th–7th grade students and retreat groups. They facilitate classes, follow curriculum, and use hands-on lessons to build critical thinking while exploring connections between the natural and human-made world.

Responsibilities include leading team-building activities, managing groups of 12–22 students, and participating in housekeeping, kitchen work, and training.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, yet flexible.
  • Must be comfortable communicating with teachers, parents and enjoy working with children.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of outdoor/experiential education.
  • Previous experience and certification in camp program areas (lifeguarding, high ropes, archery, etc.) are preferred.
  • Able to fulfill all demands in spirit, mind, and body as an outdoor education instructor.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate day and residential outdoor/environmental education programs for 4th–7th graders and retreat groups.
  • Deliver curriculum and lead activities; focus on critical thinking and connections between nature and human-made world.
  • Lead team-building activities and manage large groups (12–22 students).
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays; participate in daily building cleaning and other duties as assigned.
