Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company is seeking a General Laborer to operate on multiple Virginia job sites. This full-time, year-round role involves outdoor work in all weather, flagging, site cleaning, trenching, and installing erosion controls.

You will work with heavy equipment operators and team members, follow safety protocols, and wear provided PPE. Applicants should be able to lift and move heavy materials, perform manual labor, and communicate effectively on site.

Qualifications

• Work in outdoor environments in all seasons.
• Communicate with operators, workers and pedestrians.
• Be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces with safety equipment and training.
• Moderate to heavy lifting (more than 15 pounds) and physical tasks.
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Must pass pre-employment physical/drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform flagging, traffic closures and relevant tasks as assigned.
• Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support excavation sides, clean rubble and debris.
• Install erosion and sediment controls (silt fence, gutter buddies, etc.).
• Willing to perform manual labor to support projects.
• Wear safety toe boots, long pants and four-inch sleeves on shirts; PPE provided.
• Maintain positive relationships with customers and co-workers.
