Job summary

Desert Mountain Club is seeking an Outdoor Adventures Guide to lead and assist member groups on hiking and educational outings. You will work with fellow guides to ensure safety, share knowledge of local flora, fauna, geology, and history, and help plan multi-day excursions.

Ideal candidates have prior hiking-guide experience, a valid driver’s license, and Wilderness First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Driver's License with no traffic violations in the last 3 years.
• Wilderness First Aid – First Responder certified or must obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Previous experience guiding hiking groups and outdoor recreational experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Guide individuals or groups.
• Lead hiking, educational trips, multi-day trips, off-property excursions, and related Outdoor Adventures events.
• Work independently or as part of a team; prioritize safety and health.
• Foster positive customer relations and interpret surroundings (wildlife, geology, history).
• Assemble equipment, coordinate meals, and complete necessary paperwork.
• Drive a passenger van or shuttle on various roads; instruct and demonstrate related skills.

Join theO outdoor Adventures team at one of the largest, most beautiful, and top private country clubs in North America, Desert Mountain Club, as a Outdoor Adventures Guide!

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting and leading member groups on recreational outings, i.e., hiking, educational trips and more. The guide must work well on a team with other co-guides and trip leaders. S eeks to have and to share a robust knowledge of the area’s fauna, wildlife, geology, and history.

This position is On-Call. On-Call Guides are not required to be available 7 days a week but flexibility to work scheduled shifts is required.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with a great attitude, a strong work ethic, and have a passion for the outdoors and recreation.Previous experience guiding hiking groups and outdoor recreational experience is required. Working knowledge of terrain, weather, environment, and the local area history.

JOB DETAILS

Responsibilities:

• Guide individuals or groups.
• Lead hiking, educational trips, multi-day trips, off-property excursions, and any other Outdoor Adventures Events.
• Work independently or on a team
• Foster an environment of safety and health
• Evaluate situations and proactively troubleshoot or create solutions
• Create an environment where the safety and health of the members and other guides is the highest priority.
• Build and foster positive customer relations.
• Interpret the surroundings including wildlife, plant life, geology, and history
• Assemble necessary equipment and supplies
• Fill out and maintain paperwork
• Coordinate meals
• Drive a passenger van or shuttle on surface streets, highways, and unpaved roads
• Instruct and demonstrate related skills and techniques
• Respect and maintain natural resources
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• Required to work in an outdoor working environment – Regularly
• Exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather – Regularly
• Must be available to work, days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to walk, hike, and more for an extended period over multiple days.
• Required to lift, push, pull, move, and/or carry 15-35 pounds - Frequently
• Valid Driver’s License and comfortable driving a large passenger van or side-by-side vehicle
