Job summary

The Academy at SOAR in North Carolina seeks Field Instructors to work with students as direct care professionals. You will lead outdoor trips, facilitate learning, handle logistics and risk, and collaborate with teachers and the Program Director to build a field/expedition culture.

Position starts mid February 2025 and runs through May 12, 2025, with an option to extend into summer camp or fall semester. Minimum age 21, first aid and CPR credentials required, strong desire to work with LD/ADHD

Qualifications

• Minimum of 21 years of age.
• Wilderness First Aid certification or higher and CPR; Lifeguard preferred or willingness to obtain.
• 4 years of college or professional experience (preferred).
• Minimum of one year of experience working in the industry (preferred).
• Dedication and strong desire to work with LD and ADHD youth.
• Experience facilitating a learning environment for high school aged students (preferred).
• Experience in outdoor adventure activities with sound risk management.
• Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, hike up to 10 miles a day, paddle up to 20 miles a day.

• Lead and facilitate academic lessons during trips.
• Manage logistics and risk for field-based programming.
• Create a positive learning environment and serve as a role model for students.
• Coordinate with teachers and program directors to support student growth.
