Job summary

Oak Harbor Freight Lines is seeking a Dock Operations Supervisor to oversee daily dock activities, coordinate freight movement, and lead a team across shifts. You will train staff, enforce safety rules, and ensure on-time departures while controlling costs and maintaining equipment and facilities.

The role requires a minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in LTL freight or logistics, strong leadership, and solid computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Requires leadership experience in dock/logistics operations.
  • Ability to manage schedules and safety compliance.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and assign tasks for dock planning and setup.
  • Coordinate with management on short and long-term planning.
  • Ensure on-time departures of schedules and safe, efficient operations.
  • Perform loading and/or unloading of loads accurately and safely.
  • Supervise dock operations, procedures and freight movement.
  • Enforce safety policies and government regulations.
  • Train new dock employees and provide coaching and feedback.
  • Maintain a teamwork environment and oversee equipment and facilities.
  • Manage costs at all terminal levels.

Oversee daily dock operations by coordinating freight movement, supervising employees, and ensuring on-time departures while maintaining a safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation. Lead and develop dock personnel through training, coaching, and enforcement of company policies and regulatory requirements.

Leads will learn and be taught the entire operation. Training will include time spent on all shifts for extended periods of time to ensure a well-rounded understanding of the operation as a whole.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Schedules and assign tasks for dock planning and setup.
  • Works with management team on short and long term planning.
  • Ensures timely departure of schedules.
  • Able to perform loading and/or unloading of loads efficiently and accurately.
  • Observes loading and/or unloading of trucks for proper handling and distribution of freight for transport.
  • Supervise operations, procedures, and freight movement.
  • Enforces all safety measures regarding balance of freight for safe operation of trucks.
  • Enforces compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules and government regulations.
  • Trains new dock employees and counsels dock personnel with feedback, coaching and discipline as needed for improved job performance.
  • Creates and maintains a teamwork environment with employees.
  • Maintains equipment and facility for effective, clean and safe operations.
  • Manage cost goals at all levels of the terminal.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in LTL freight, logistics or transportation.
  • Proven leadership, team building and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Must have good computer skills (AS/400 & MS Office a plus).
  • Possess excellent verbal, written communication and listening skills.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials preferred.
  • Must have strong work ethic and good problem-solving skills.
  • Must be available to work up to 50 hours/week average.
  • Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • RF Scanner experience preferred
