Job summary

UAB St. Vincent's in Birmingham, AL, seeks an Occupational Therapy Assistant to support the Acute Care Rehab team. Under supervision of an OT, you will implement treatment plans, document progress, and participate in discharge planning.

You will educate patients and families about deficits, assist with adaptive equipment choices, and, when appropriate, supervise therapy technicians following state regulations and standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements: High school diploma or GED.
• Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS required within 1 month of hire.
• COTA credentialed from Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy required within 1 month of hire.

What You Will Do

• Conduct medically prescribed occupational therapy under the supervision of an occupational therapist.
• Implement an established treatment plan using appropriate modalities. Document findings of patient progress. Seek consultation as necessary.
• Monitor patient's response to treatment plan. Communicate patient progress and possible goal revisions to occupational therapist.
• Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits. Provide discharge planning assistance and information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and community support programs.
• May oversee the care provided by therapy 3-Technicians according to established regulations and practice standards.

What You Will Need

• Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
• Licensure / Certification / Registration:
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American HeartAssociation or American Red Cross accepted. Required.
  • Certified Rehab Therapist specializing in Occupational Therapy (COTA) credentialed from the Alabama Board of Occupational Therapy obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Required.
