Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide direct patient care on our acute care therapy team, working across locations including UAB Hospital and related clinics. You will collaborate with therapists, coordinate patient care, and support discharge planning at the bedside where appropriate.

This role requires graduation from an AOTA-accredited OTA program, current license or eligibility for Alabama, and CPR certification.

Position Overview

Pay range: $22.90 - $37.25 / hour

Schedules: 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Job Highlights

Our highly skilled acute care therapy team provides occupational, physical, speech, and music therapies, along with audiology services, across a variety of settings. Practice locations include UAB Hospital and UAB Hospital-Highlands, which includes 12 specialty ICUs and two emergency departments, as well as specialty clinics like the UAB Russell Clinic and the Audiology Clinic at The Kirklin Clinic of UAB Hospital. The goal of therapy at this level is to promote early mobilization, restore function, prevent further decline, enhance communication, and facilitate a safer and more seamless transition to the next level of care. Acute care therapy services are available with a referral from a physician, and patients of all ages are treated at the bedside in most cases.

Job Description

To provide direct patient care under the supervision of manager and therapists, coordinate/cooperate with assigned supportive personnel, assist with discharge planning, document pertinent information with Occupational Therapist supervision, communicate with staff, patients and families, participate in educational activities, support departmental operations, and perform special projects. To coordinate assignments of Rehab Techs, work-study students and volunteers.

Qualifications

Graduate from an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed, eligible to be licensed or practicing under a limited permit as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) according to the rules and regulations of the Alabama State Board of Occupational Therapy required. Currently certified with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
