Job summary

University of Delaware is seeking an OSP Field Engineer to perform field surveys for fiber-optic and telecommunications projects in San Diego, CA. This onsite contract role collects data, documents conditions, validates routes, and ensures complete information for design and permitting.

You will conduct field walks, capture photos, measure spans, record GPS, and convert notes to KMZ format. Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions and coordinate with project managers and engineers;

Qualifications

• Experience in OSP fielding, telecom construction, or utility surveying preferred.
• AT&T experience or GPON exposure a plus.
• Knowledge of Google Earth and KMZ/KML file handling a plus.
• Understanding of FTTP/GPON design is a plus.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform field walks to document poles, UG paths, utilities, ROW boundaries, and site conditions.
• Capture photos: pole tags, heights, cable labels, MPOE, handholes, anchors, clearances, obstructions.
• Measure spans, attachment heights, mid-span clearances, and record GPS coordinates.
• Take detailed field notes following design principles and maintain route documentation.
• Convert field notes into Google Earth/KMZ format (preferred).
• Identify constructability issues, easements, conflicts, and permitting requirements.
• Upload and manage data using platforms such as Katapult Pro or IQGEO.
