Job summary

SpaceXAI in Memphis, TN invites an OSP Fiber Design Technician to join our hands-on engineering team. You will prepare and revise OSP fiber design drawings, conduit layouts, splice diagrams, and permitting packages using AutoCAD, and maintain GIS route maps and asset inventories.

You will support field surveys, data conversion, BOM development, and coordinate with senior engineers to ensure drawings meet standards and local permitting requirements, contributing directly to the company’s mission

Qualifications

• Must have internship or project experience in telecom, utility, or civil infrastructure.
• Familiarity with fiber pathways, duct banks, and splicing concepts.
• Experience with GIS data exchange (CAD-to-GIS) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and revise OSP fiber design drawings, conduit layouts, splice diagrams, and permitting packages in AutoCAD
• Create and maintain GIS-based route maps, asset inventories, and spatial data for fiber pathways, vaults, and handholes
• Assist with field surveys, redline markups, and conversion of field data into final drawings and GIS layers
• Support BOM development, quantity take-offs, and basic loss-budget calculations
• Coordinate with senior engineers, construction teams, and utilities on design changes and as-built updates
• Ensure drawings and GIS data comply with company standards, TIA/BICSI guidelines, and local permitting requirements

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role will support the design, documentation, and coordination of outside plant (OSP) fiber optic infrastructure. Focuses on producing accurate construction drawings, route maps, and as-built records using AutoCAD and GIS tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare and revise OSP fiber design drawings, conduit layouts, splice diagrams, and permitting packages in AutoCAD
• Create and maintain GIS-based route maps, asset inventories, and spatial data for fiber pathways, vaults, and handholes
• Assist with field surveys, redline markups, and conversion of field data into final drawings and GIS layers
• Support BOM development, quantity take-offs, and basic loss-budget calculations
• Coordinate with senior engineers, construction teams, and utilities on design changes and as-built updates

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree or equivalent in engineering, geospatial technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD (preferably Civil 3D or similar) for utility/telecom drawings
• Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent) for mapping and spatial analysis
• Basic understanding of fiber optic OSP concepts (conduit systems, aerial/buried placement, splicing, and terminations)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, accurate technical drawings
• Willingness to perform occasional field work and site visits

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Prior internship or project experience in telecom, utility, or civil infrastructure
• Familiarity with fiber strand counts, duct banks, and standard OSP construction practices
• Experience with Google Earth, KML/KMZ files, or CAD-to-GIS data exchange
