Job summary

Network Connex is seeking an OSP Designer in Downers Grove, IL to prepare, revise, and maintain Outside Plant engineering drawings and construction documentation for fiber optic network projects. You will work with engineers, designers, PMs, and field teams to create aerial and underground fiber designs, permitting packages, and construction drawings to support project execution.

Responsibilities include creating and maintaining EWDs, splice diagrams, and permit exhibits, reviewing field survey

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in CAD, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
• 1-3 years drafting experience, preferably in telecommunications or OSP engineering.
• AutoCAD experience required; telecommunications OSP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and modify OSP engineering drawings using AutoCAD, GIS, or related drafting software.
• Develop aerial and underground fiber route maps and construction documents.
• Create and maintain Engineering Work Documents (EWDs), fiber designs, splice diagrams, permit exhibits, and as-built drawings.
• Review field survey data and incorporate findings into design packages.
• Support permit package preparation and jurisdictional submittals.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, and Project Management teams to ensure design accuracy.
• Maintain project documentation and drawing standards.
• Assist with bill of materials development and documentation tracking.
• Revise drawings based on customer comments, field conditions, and design changes.
• Ensure all deliverables meet company and customer quality standards.

Job Summary

The OSP Designer is responsible for preparing, revising, and maintaining Outside Plant (OSP) engineering drawings and construction documentation for fiber optic network projects. This role works closely with Engineers, Designers, Project Managers, and Field Teams to develop accurate aerial and underground fiber designs, permitting packages, and construction drawings that support project execution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with OSP engineering, telecommunications, fiber optic design, or utility projects
• Experience with GIS platforms and permitting documentation
• Knowledge of pole attachment, make-ready, and right-of-way requirements
• Familiarity with fiber route planning and permit processes

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Associate degree in CAD, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
• 1-3 years of drafting experience, preferably in telecommunications or OSP engineering
• AutoCAD experience required; telecommunications OSP experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer
• Ability to occasionally travel to project sites if needed
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
