Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Labor is seeking an OSHA Safety Officer I (S) in Wilmington to inspect workplaces, assess employee exposures to hazards, and write legally defensible reports.

Travel is required for on-site inspections, with duties including handling complaints and coordinating with state/local agencies. A qualifying bachelor's or associate degree in safety-related field is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferably with a major in occupational safety, industrial management or technology, industrial engineering, industrial arts, engineering operations, or a closely related curriculum.
• Two years of experience in occupational safety and health inspections; or an Associate degree with four years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections and prepare timely written reports on employee exposures to hazards.
• Recommend citations when justified by state OSH laws.
• Travel to conduct on-site inspections of safety-related items.
