Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or two to three years related experience.
  • License to practice Orthotics and/or Prosthetics in Illinois, Wisconsin, or both if required.
  • CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Review physician's referral, patient condition and medical records to determine appropriate orthotic management.
  • Obtain history and subjective components of the evaluation.
  • Select materials and components and make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts.
  • Evaluate devices on patients and adjust for fit, function, comfort, and quality.
  • Instruct patients in use of orthopedic devices.
  • Repair and maintain orthopedic devices; document care and device performance in patient chart.
  • Coordinate with physicians and other practitioners to optimize orthotics within overall care.

Job description

OVERVIEWThis position provides comprehensive orthotic care by evaluating patients, developing individualized treatment plans, and designing, fitting, and adjusting orthopedic devices to ensure optimal function, comfort, and quality. The role collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals, documents patient care, provides education and training, and coordinates orthotic services across clinic locations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESReview Physician's referral, patient's condition and medical records to determine appropriate orthotic management.Obtains history and subjective components of the evaluation.Observes posture, position, and palpates anatomical structures.Plans and prepares written treatment plan based on evaluation of patient data.Select materials and components and make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts using measuring equipment.Evaluate devices on patients and make adjustments to ensure fit, function, comfort, and quality; and instruct patients in use of orthopedic devices.Repairs and maintains orthopedic devices by using hand tools.Records general makeup of device, provided education material, quality of fit, and patients response to administration of device in patient's chart or enters information into computer.Confers with Physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in orthotic management, and integrate orthotics with other aspects of patient's health care.Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, technicians, and other orthotic and prosthetic professionals.Plans and conducts lectures and training programs on orthotics and related topics for medical staff, students, and community groups.Coordinates activities with other clinic locations.CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONSTo perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following behavior expectations:Quality - Follows policies and procedures; adapts to and manages changes in the environment; Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness giving attention to details; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Manages time and prioritizes effectively to achieve organizational goals.Service - Responds promptly to requests for service and assistance; Follows the Mercyhealth Critical Moments of service; Meets commitments; Abides by MH confidentiality and security agreement; Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; and effectively communicates information to partners; Thinks system wide regarding processes and functions.Partnering - Shows commitment to the Mission of Mercyhealth and Culture of Excellence through all words and actions; Exhibits objectivity and openness to other's views; Demonstrates a high level of participation and engagement in day-to-day work; Gives and welcomes feedback; Generates suggestions for improving work: Embraces teamwork, supports and encourages positive change while giving value to individuals.Cost - Conserves organization resources; Understands fiscal responsibility; Works within approved budget; Develops and implements cost saving measures; contributes to profits and revenue.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree (B. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of PHS, HBO, ChartView Database software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software.Other Skills and Abilities: Attends continuing education programs, may be required to work flexible hours, may be required to work in other locations.SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
