Job summary

Shriners Children's Portland invites applications for a full-time O&P Assistant to measure, cast, modify, fabricate and fit prosthetic and orthotic devices under indirect supervision of an ABC Certified Practitioner.

The role also requires timely, compliant documentation in the OPIE EMR and coordinating with the technical staff to meet delivery dates for each device.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• College-level courses in Anatomy & Physiology, General Physics and Medical Terminology preferred.
• Certified Prosthetic and Orthotic Assistant (CPOA) is a plus; other relevant hospital/clinic experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Adherence to ABC Standards
• Compliant data entry in OPIE EMR System
• Provide guidance and assistance for technical staff
• Support front office operations when the office OA is unavailable
• Orthotic and prosthetic patient fittings and adjustments; clinic coverage
• Communication with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team
• Document medical records, coding and billing responsibilities for devices

Education

High School Diploma/GED

Anatomy & Physiology, General Physics, Medical Terminology courses

Certified Prosthetic and Orthotic Assistant (CPOA) – preferred

PT/OT/AT assistant experience (willing to train to become CPOA) – preferred

Job Description

The O&P Assistant is responsible for the measurement, casting, modification, fabrication and fitting of prosthetic and orthotic devices under the indirect supervision of an ABC Certified Practitioner. Additionally, they are responsible for the timely and compliant patient documentation utilizing OPIE EMR system. The Prosthetic/Orthotic Assistant is responsible to monitor their WIP and direct the technical staff in fabrication of specific orthotic and prosthetic devices following an organized and orderly work flow with reasonable delivery dates of the orthosis/prosthesis to patients. Shriners Portland is looking for a full time O&P Assistant to join the team!

Key Responsibilities

• Adherence to ABC Standards
• Compliant data entry in OPIE EMR System
• Provide guidance and assistance for technical staff
• Supportfront office operations during times when the office OA is unavailable.
• Orthotic and prosthetic patient fittings and adjustments, along with daily and after-hours orthotic and prosthetic clinic coverage
• Communication skills to effectively work with physicians, patients, families, members of the healthcare team, employees, students, visitors, and volunteers
• To understand and be responsible for proper documentation for medical records, coding and billing responsibilities for all devices

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• College level courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology, General Physics, Medical Terminology

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Prosthetic and Orthotic Assistant
• Physical Therapist assistant/Occupational Therapist assistant/Athletic Trainer (willing to train to become CPOA)
• 1-2 years of experience working in a hospital or medical office
• Patient registrations, scheduling, and related office responsibilities
• Durable Medical Equipment (Orthotics & Prosthetics) related experience

Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
