Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate from an ABC recognized O&P school, or a minimum of one year’s applicable technical experience.
  • Must be capable to fabricate all types of orthoses or prostheses as directed by the lab supervisor.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates orthoses or prostheses as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with department scope of practice.
  • Create positive plaster molds, strip negative casts, thermoform plastic, cutout, grind and smooth plastic for orthoses or prostheses.
  • Contour, drill, polish metal work for devices and add closures as requested; sew materials as required and assist practitioners on a PRN basis.
  • Fit patients with shoes or fabricate shoe lifts.
  • Track and order materials for inventory and manage equipment.
  • Care for and come in contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age patients.
  • Interface with clinical and lab staff regarding varied techniques and training residents.
  • Contribute to the training of residents and students as assigned.
  • Perform all duties of the production assistant as needed.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Fabricates orthoses or prosthesis as delegated by the lab supervisor, consistent with department scope of practice.

  • Create positive plaster molds, strip negative casts, thermoform plastic, cutout, grind and smooth plastic for orthoses or prostheses.

  • Contour, drill, polish metal work for devices and add closures as requested. Sewing materials as required and assist practitioners on a PRN basis as needed.

  • Cares for and comes in contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age patients

Required Skills/Abilities
  • High school degree or equivalent required.

  • Certificate from an ABC recognized O&P school, or a minimum of one year’s applicable technical experience required.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge and capability to fabricate all types of orthoses or prostheses as directed by the lab supervisor

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills
