Job Overview

The Orthopedics Technician I assists physicians and extenders in providing medical and clerical support within orthopedic practice locations.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Perform procedures such as wound care, dressings, EKGs, suture/staple removal, orthopedic cast/splint application and removal, injections, vaccines, Botox, phlebotomy for PRP, and ultrasound assistance, following appropriate training and competency.
  2. Coordinate patient care under healthcare provider supervision.
  3. Prepare and room patients, document health information, and order radiographs according to protocols.
  4. Document all pertinent details in the electronic health record accurately, review and update patient histories and medication lists, and function as a scribe when needed.
  5. Manage pre-visit charts by obtaining reports and reviewing charts for completeness.
  6. Educate patients on wound, pin, cast, and postoperative care as per provider instructions.
  7. Ensure treatment areas are stocked with supplies, and prepare exam rooms for patient visits.
  8. Travel to satellite locations as required to support physicians.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proof of graduation from an AHN-approved Medical Assistant School within five years OR graduation from an accredited athletic training program OR relevant experience.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Athletic Trainer Licensure within 120 days of hire.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years’ experience as an Orthopedic Technician, Medical Assistant, or Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
