Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking an Orthopedic support professional to assist physicians and extenders with wound care, injections, radiographs, and chart management across multiple locations.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, relevant MA or ATC certification, CPR, and state clearances. Travel to satellite locations is expected, with a strong emphasis on HIPAA compliance and patient care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Athletic Trainer Licensure within 120 days of hire.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association) required.
  • Act 34, Act 33 and Act 73 FBI fingerprinting background clearances required.
  • 3–5 years’ experience as an Ortho Technician, Medical Assistant, or ATC preferred.

  • After training and competency, performs procedures such as wound care, dressings, EKGs, removal of sutures/staples, casts/splints, injections, vaccines, botox, phlebotomy for PRP, and ultrasound assistance.
  • Coordinates patient care under supervision of the provider.
  • Prepares and rooms patients, documents health info, takes history and medications; orders radiographs per protocols.
  • Documents in EHR, reviews allergies/medications/history, and pain screening.
  • Functions as a scribe to maintain clinic workflow.
  • Performs pre-visit chart management and reviews charts for completion.
  • Educates patients on wound, pin, cast, and postoperative care.
  • Prepares exam rooms and inventories supplies.
  • Requires travel to satellite locations to support physicians.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Job description

Overview

Assists physicians and extenders in providing proper medical and clerical support for the various orthopedic practice locations.

Responsibilities
  • After appropriate training and documented competency, performs procedures such as wound care, dressings, EKGs, removal of sutures/staples, application/removal of orthopedic casts/splints, drawing up injections, vaccines, botox, phlebotomy for PRP, and assisting with ultrasound procedures.
  • Assists in the coordination of patient care under the supervision of the assigned healthcare provider.
  • Prepares and rooms patients within the clinical practice setting by documenting patient health information, history and medications; accurately interviews patients and orders radiographs according to physician protocols.
  • Follows standard workflows to accurately document all pertinent details in the electronic health record, reviews and updates allergy and medication lists, social, medical and surgical history, and pain screening.
  • Functions as a scribe to the provider when needed to maintain clinic workflow.
  • Performs pre‑visit chart management tasks by obtaining diagnostic reports, reviewing charts for completion, and scanning pertinent findings from outside information to physicians and staff as necessary.
  • Educates patients on proper wound, pin, cast care, and postoperative care according to provider instruction and standards.
  • Prepares exam rooms for patient visits and ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies, keeping treatment areas stocked with the appropriate supplies.
  • Requires travel to various satellite locations to support assigned physicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned when needed.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proof of graduation from an AHN approved Medical Assistant School within five years of hire OR graduate from an accredited athletic training education program OR relevant experience as determined by the company in lieu of education.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Athletic Trainer Licensure within 120 days of hire. Newly hired medical assistants must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire.
  • CPR – American Heart Association.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Preferred
  • 3–5 years’ experience as an Ortho Technician, Medical Assistant, or Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC).
