Job description

Dane Street is an Independent Review Organization and a national provider of Utilization Review services (among other offerings). We are expanding our physician panel, creating opportunities for non-traditional physician work and supplemental income. This is a telework opportunity for physicians, offering a caseload tailored to your schedule.

Position Overview

Our physician panel consists of independent contract reviewers (1099), compensated on a per-case basis. We seek board-certified physicians in Occupational Medicine with active California licenses, experienced in the California Independent Medical Review (IMR) process. IMR serves as a binding appeals process for disputes arising from the denial or modification of workers' compensation treatment requests. Since July 1, 2013, all medical treatment disputes, regardless of injury date, are resolved through IMR, streamlining the process significantly.

Role Responsibilities
  1. Review and evaluate workers' compensation treatment requests for medical necessity.
  2. Assess cases using evidence-based guidelines such as the Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule (MTUS) and Official Disability Guidelines (ODG).
  3. Provide clear, written determinations articulating the rationale for each decision.
  4. Stay informed about current standards and medicolegal writing requirements.
Qualifications
  • Board certification in Occupational Medicine.
  • Active California medical license.
  • Experience with the California IMR process preferred but not required.
