Job summary

Duke University Health System in Morrisville, NC is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for Orthopaedics to support both clinical and administrative tasks. The role involves rooming patients, taking histories, charting, handling calls, and assisting physicians with patient care.

Ideal candidates have a CAAHEP/ABHES accredited Medical Assistant program, high school diploma, and certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA). BLS is required; prior clinic experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
• High school or GED graduation required.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
• 1 year prior experience in a clinic setting preferred.
• BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care Responsibilities: rooming patients, collecting histories, charting, answering phone calls, completing forms
• Clerical Duties: prepping clinics, obtaining test results, updating charts, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, coordinating referrals and appointments
• Fulfills EOC Responsibilities: cleaning exam rooms, stocking supplies, restocking exam rooms, cleaning exam tables, ensuring a safe work environment
• Organizational Duties: promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, following HR, Compliance and Joint Commission policies
• State-law variations may include autoclaving, vitals, suture removal, dressing changes, orders per protocol, biohazard waste, blood draws, and DME application
• As assigned by clinic leadership, remove cast and apply basic splints; fit DME products in clinic
• Other duties as assigned by manager or leadership
