Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The CMA will support clinical teams with patient care, administrative duties, and health system workflows.

The role requires graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Level I–III pathways) and certification with one of the national boards, plus BLS. Ideal for candidates with strong patient communication and teamwork skills within a busy outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program preferred; high school or GED graduation required.
• Level II/III requires progression with 1+ to 3+ years of clinical MA experience in a clinical setting.
• Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required; BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephones and greet patients.
• Update and file patient medical records; schedule appointments.
• Assist medical and nursing staff in examinations and procedures.
• Take medical histories and record vital signs; prepare patients for tests.
• Draw blood and prepare specimens; perform basic lab tests.
• Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician; dispense refills.
