Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU - Orthopedic Technician

Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU combines award-winning research, education, and clinical care with an understanding of what makes kids tick. Our team is a family, working together to give every child in our community a chance to heal, recover, and celebrate their superpowers.

Position Overview: Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, the Orthopedic Tech applies casts, splints, and other DME to orthopedic patients in an outpatient setting. This role involves patient and family teaching across a variety of educational levels, ordering and maintaining supplies in the cast room.

Qualifications:
  • Licensure/Certification: Preferred: Orthopedic Technician Certified (OTC) by NBCOT; BLS Certification required for continued employment; Current/active OTC certification preferred.
  • Experience: Not required; Previous outpatient clinical experience preferred.
  • Education: Required: High school diploma or GED; Preferred: N/A
Responsibilities:
  • Functions under the direction of a licensed practitioner, providing care related to casts, splints, and wound care according to hospital policies.
  • Requires prior approval for schedule changes, legal issues, or care deviations.
Additional Details:
  • Shift schedules will be established with the Nurse or Practice Manager and may be adjusted as needed.
  • Serves all age groups.
  • Physical demands include lifting over 100 lbs., prolonged standing, bending, walking, climbing, and reaching.
  • Must handle a fast-paced, noisy environment, with frequent customer interactions and the ability to adapt to change.

Location: Fredericksburg, VA (not Richmond)
