Job description

Position: Orthopedic Technician

Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, the Orthopedic Tech applies casts, splints, and other DME to patients in an outpatient setting. This role includes patient/family teaching across a variety of educational levels, as well as ordering and maintaining supplies in the cast room.

Qualifications
  1. Licensure/Certification: OTC certification by NBCOT preferred; BLS certification required; current/active OTC certification preferred.
  2. Experience: Previous outpatient clinical experience preferred; none required.
  3. Education: High school diploma or GED required; additional training preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Functions under the direction of a licensed practitioner, providing patient care related to casts, splints, and wound care in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Requires prior approval from supervisor for schedule changes, legal issues, or deviations from standard care.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment in the cast room.
Additional Requirements
  • Shift schedules will be established with the Nurse/Practice Manager; schedules may be adjusted as needed.
  • Serves all age groups.
  • Physical requirements include lifting over 100 lbs, exposure to hazardous substances, prolonged standing, and other physical activities.
  • Must be able to problem solve, communicate clearly, and adapt to a fast-paced environment with frequent changes.
Location

Please note this position is in Fredericksburg VA, not in Richmond.
