Job summary

100 LCMC Health is seeking a dedicated individual to assist with orthopedic care responsibilities, including applying casts, patient education, and OR support. Candidates should possess a High School Diploma and relevant experience.

This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a patient-focused approach. The position is located in the United States with variable hours.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in orthopedics in a clinical/hospital setting preferred; 2 years of work experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • Basic Life Support (Health Care Provider) certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Applies and removes casts, observes patients for skin integrity.
  • Educates patients and nursing staff on cast care.
  • Provides OR coverage by assisting orthopedic surgeons.

Skills

Effective verbal and written communication
Basic training in nursing assistant
Ability to make patient care judgments under pressure
Knowledge of sterilization and infection control

Job description

General Duties
  • Cast Application/Removal: Applies, adjusts, and removes casts, splints, and traction under direct supervision of orthopedic providers.
  • Observes patients for skin integrity, reports breaks to nurse, physician, or provider.
  • Educates patients and nursing staff on cast care and complications.
  • Assists inpatient liaison duties, including use of Hoyer lifts, bed scales, and supports patient transport.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, and cast room; cleans equipment following proper technique.
  • Charges for supplies and equipment appropriately.
  • Provides OR coverage by assisting orthopedic surgeons in operating room.
Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent. One year of experience in orthopedics in a clinical/hospital setting preferred; 2 years of work experience will be considered in lieu of education.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (Health Care Provider) – American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Basic training in nursing assistant, medical corpsman, and EMT.
  • Ability to make patient care judgments in distracting, time‑constrained environments.
  • Prioritization skills for efficient patient care under pressure.
  • Knowledge of sterilization and infection control protocols.
