Florida Orthopaedic Institute - NCF is seeking an Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer to join our Gainesville clinic. You will measure, fit and dispense braces and casts, and support the medical team to ensure smooth patient flow.

The role emphasizes accurate documentation, teamwork and patient care in a busy outpatient setting. We offer a $2,500 sign-on bonus (paid in two installments) and a $1,000 referral bonus after 90 days.

Qualifications

• Certified Athletic Trainer required.
• BS Degree preferred or higher.
• 1–2 years in medical field preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficiency with EMR systems and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Measure, fit and dispense braces and splints as directed by the physician.
• Place casts and assist in bracing and casting procedures.
• Document and distribute paperwork for timely billing.
• Maintain clean, stocked cast room and inventory control.
• Assist Medical Assistant and staff to improve clinic flow and patient service.
• Work regular hours Monday–Friday with possible Saturday overtime.

In this role you will:

The primary responsibility of the Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer is to measure, fit and dispense braces and splints as well as the placement of casts as directed by the physician. The Orthopaedic Technician/ Athletic Trainer is required to research and comprehend the technical aspects of all types of bracing and casting in order to act as a resource to the medical team. They are also responsible for making sure all paperwork is completed and distributed to the proper team members to ensure timely billing. The Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer will be responsible for maintaining their assigned work areas in a clean and well stocked condition as well as inventory control, order entry and restocking in their designated area. When available, the Orthopaedic Technician/Athletic Trainer should assist the Medical Assistant and other support staff with placing patients in rooms or any other duties deemed appropriate by their supervisor in order to make the clinic flow more smoothly providing patients with excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Applies and educates patients on durable medical equipment (DME)/bracing to protect or prevent injuries as ordered by the physician. This includes off the shelf and custom functional knee braces.
• Applies and educates patients on bandages, casts, and splints to protect or prevent injuries as ordered by the physician.
• Answers patient calls regarding questions or concerns with casts, splints, or DME.
• Properly documents/dictates in our Athena (EMR) and Empower (Inventory) systems on all cast and DME clinic patients and DME items dispensed.
• Maintains the cast room in a clean and sanitary manner by ensuring all patient treatment surfaces, exam tables, foot stands, etc., are wiped down with antimicrobial solution after each patient.
• Ensures casting and DME supplies are adequately ordered and stocked. Report any overstock, inadequate stock or deadstock items to DME Inventory Coordinator and DME Supervisor.
• Responsible for receiving DME and supply orders, ensuring accuracy of packing slip information and attaching the packing slip to the purchase order.
• Promotes high levels of teamwork and morale within the department.
• Attends regular staff meetings with the DME Manager and Supervisors.
• Promote sense of pride in FOI and positive interpersonal relations among all team members.
• Regular hours M-F (8 hr shifts), option for overtime on Saturdays
• Assure compliance with all company plans, policies and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic Institute
• All other duties assigned.

About You:

• Certified Athletic Trainer
• BS Degree preferred or higher
• Preferably a minimum of 1 to 2 years in medical field.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
• Computer proficiency: MS Word, Excel, EMR systems.
• Meet the expectations of our internal and external customers in providing excellent service
• Ability to perform tasks independently with the direction of the DME manager
• Willingly perform other duties or tasks as assigned and handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently
• Enjoy working as part of a team
