Job summary

Connecticut Orthopaedics is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians with clinical scheduling, patient flow, test and surgery authorizations, and post-op follow-up. You will liaise with outside facilities, enter data accurately, prepare paperwork for procedures, and assist with casts and durable medical equipment.

Monday–Friday, Essex/Branford area roles. Qualifications include CMA certification or accredited MA training, a high school diploma, and orthopaedic practice experience

Qualifications

• Certification from an Accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training.
• High school Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• Experience as Medical Assistant or Medical Secretary preferred.
• Experience working in an orthopaedic practice preferred.

Responsibilities

• Booking provider requests for tests and surgeries and obtaining authorizations, recording information.
• Contacting outside facilities and processing related paperwork for scheduling tests and surgeries.
• Following up on surgical patients to ensure pre-op and testing appointments are completed.
• Contacting patients with information regarding scheduled tests or surgeries and scheduling follow-up visits.
• Ensuring test results are received and distributed appropriately.
• Documenting information in the computer system (pre-cert numbers, patient charts).
• Preparing paperwork, x-rays and documents for physician related to surgery.
• Addressing patient concerns and questions.
• Directing requests for worker compensation approval of tests and surgeries to the case manager.
• Pre-authorizing and calling in prescriptions and/or injectables for the physician.
• Scheduling post-op and first physical therapy appointment and informing patient.
• Applying casts, removing dressings, sutures, and casts.
• Fitting patients with durable medical equipment and braces and completing billing paperwork.
• Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
