Job summary

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush seeks a Medical Assistant for the Orthopedics & Cast Room in Chicago. The role supports physicians in orthopedics, performs phlebotomy, casting, dressings, wound care, and venipuncture, and assists with rooming and clinic flow.

Full-time, Monday-Friday, with no weekends. At least two years clinical experience, high school diploma; training in cast-room procedures preferred. Competitive benefits included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least two years of hands-on clinical experience as a Medical Assistant or in a comparable patient-care role.
• Demonstrated experience in phlebotomy, suture and staple removal, and wound care.
• Preferred experience in orthopedics, casting, splinting, bracing, or durable medical equipment (DME).

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and venipuncture; collect, label, and prepare specimens for processing.
• Remove sutures and staples and provide wound care and dressing changes as directed.
• Apply, remove, or assist with casts, splints, and dressings as ordered.
• Prepare and fit orthopedic braces and durable medical equipment (DME); adjust crutches and canes and assist patients with their use.
• Teach patients how to care for casts, splints, dressings, and DME.
• Prepare treatment rooms, clean between patients, restock supplies, maintain inventory, and assist with ordering and purchase orders.
• Assist with rooming patients and clinic flow as needed; communicate patient concerns promptly to the clinical team.
• Travel to other MOR clinic locations as needed and perform other related duties as assigned.
