Orthopedic Physicians Alaska seeks a highly skilled Orthopedic Casting Technician to join our Anchorage team. Under physicians' guidance, you will cast and remove plaster and synthetic casts, fit splints, educate patients on devices, and help manage supplies in a busy clinical setting.

This full-time role supports a schedule Monday–Friday, with a professional work environment that emphasizes patient-centered care, ongoing training, and opportunities to grow within a collaborative orthopedic

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Preferred Medical Assistant or orthopedic technology training.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and orthopedic supplies.

Responsibilities

• Performs casting, splinting, and application of braces under supervision.
• Assists with patient care activities related to orthopedic treatment.
• Educates patients and families on appliance use and care.
• Documents care provided and maintains accurate records.
• Monitors and orders casting supplies and DME.
• Cleans and autoclaves instruments.
• Trains residents and staff in casting and splinting.

Orthopedic Physicians Alaska seeks a highly skilled, dedicated and professional Orthopedic Casting Technician to join our rapidly growing and dynamic team. General Summary:

In a collaborative environment and working under the guidance of physicians, orthopedic technicians teach patients to use walking aids such as canes and crutches, and fit and adjust equipment as necessary. Orthopedic technicians apply and remove plaster and synthetic casts and inform patients about the risks of treatment. Under the guidance of surgeons, orthopedic technicians fabricate splints and manage other medical technology, including braces and prosthetic limbs.

Representative duties

• Performs splinting, casting, and application of traction, braces and other devices under the direction of an orthopedic physician or physician assistant.
• Performs direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice of an orthopedic technologist and specific training, assisting orthopedic physician with dressing changes, suture and pin removal, incision and drainage, reducing fractures, etc.
• Educate patients and staff regarding proper care and use of appliances.
• Document the care administered.
• Monitor and order and all casting, clinical, DME, and patient supplies including instruments
• Clean and autoclave instruments.
• Orient and provide on-the-job training in casting and splinting to resident physicians and staff.

Knowledge and skill requirements

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
• Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and of orthopedic supplies.

Skills:

• Skill in the area of tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
• Ability to effectively share information with patients and families.
• Skilled in the application of casting, splinting, and orthopedic appliances

Abilities:

Education:

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

Preferred Experience:

Medical Assistant or orthopedic technology certificate or related associate's degree
