About the Role

Applications are invited for the 2026/2027 training for non-SET Registrar Positions (2+ years Post Graduation) at Waikato Hospital.

Note: Trainees will commence as directed by their college.

Candidates who have completed two years of postgraduate hospital experience, including a variety of surgical experiences, are encouraged to apply. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the breadth of Orthopaedic surgery in our large tertiary setting before focusing on a specific training pathway. We offer an excellent training environment with supportive supervision and opportunities for career development, providing extensive experience across various settings.

About the Team/Service

Waikato Hospital is a teaching hospital and the major tertiary referral center providing specialized and emergency healthcare for the Te Manawa Taki and Waikato area, with a catchment population of approximately 1,007,000. It is the only major hospital in New Zealand offering all surgical specialties on one campus and is the primary trauma hospital for the region.

Waikato Hospital has 550 inpatient beds, performs over 34,000 surgical procedures annually in a 24-theatre operating suite, and handles around 220 emergency department visits per day.

Located in Hamilton city, the third largest city in North Island, just an hour south of Auckland, it offers a superb lifestyle and quality-of-life working environment. The city has a vibrant social scene centered around the hospital and is close to both West Coast surfing beaches and East Coast leisure beaches. The Ruapehu Ski-fields are three hours away, with excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, fishing, and biking throughout Waikato and New Zealand.

About You

As an Orthopaedics Registrar, you will be:

  • PGY2 completed or equivalent
  • Experience in Orthopaedics is a bonus but not required
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand
