Job summary

South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is seeking an Orthopaedic Technician to join the Ancillary Services team. You will assist with casting, splinting, DME dispensing, and insurance authorizations in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

The ideal candidate has 1+ year in a clinical healthcare setting, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, PAs, and staff. Travel between Stuart and Port St. Lucie offices is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a clinical healthcare setting.
  • Experience in outpatient physician practice, urgent care, sports medicine, or orthopedic environment.
  • Experience as an Orthopaedic Technician or similar orthopedic support role.
  • Working knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience using an electronic medical record (NextGen preferred).
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism and a strong work ethic in a team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Apply, modify, and remove casts, splints, braces, and other immobilization devices.
  • Fit and dispense Durable Medical Equipment (DME) while educating patients on proper use and care.
  • Verify insurance benefits, obtain authorizations, and provide patients with cost estimates for DME.
  • Coordinate brace fitting appointments following insurance approval.
  • Answer patient questions regarding casts, splints, braces, and post-application care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure casting and bracing areas remain clean, organized, and stocked.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, medical assistants, and front office staff.
  • Travel between Stuart and Port St. Lucie offices as needed.
  • Follow organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties to support the Ancillary Services department.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinical professional who enjoys working directly with patients, physicians, and physician assistants in a fast-paced outpatient orthopaedic practice.

As an Orthopaedic Technician, you'll play an important role in helping patients recover from fractures, injuries, and orthopedic conditions through expert casting, splinting, brace fitting, and durable medical equipment (DME) services. What You'll Do

Working under the direction of physicians and physician assistants, you'll provide specialized orthopaedic support services including:

  • Apply, modify, and remove casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic immobilization devices
  • Fit and dispense Durable Medical Equipment (DME) while educating patients on proper use and care
  • Verify insurance benefits, obtain authorizations, and provide patients with cost estimates for prescribed DME
  • Coordinate brace fitting appointments following insurance approval
  • Answer patient questions regarding casts, splints, braces, and post-application care
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record
  • Ensure the casting and bracing areas remain clean, organized, and fully stocked
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, physician assistants, medical assistants, and front office staff to ensure efficient patient care
  • Travel between practice locations to support patient care as needed
  • Follow all organizational policies, clinical protocols, HIPAA requirements, and safety standards
  • Perform other duties that support the goals of the Ancillary Services department

Required

  • Basic computer proficiency and experience using an electronic medical record (NextGen preferred)
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, flexibility, and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative clinical team
Preferred
  • Experience applying and removing casts, splints, braces, or orthopedic immobilization devices
  • Experience fitting and dispensing Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
  • Experience obtaining insurance authorizations for DME
  • Experience caring for patients of all ages, including pediatric patients
  • Knowledge of orthopedic injuries, fracture care, and musculoskeletal conditions
