Job summary

The Covenant Health affiliated Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) for the Orthopedic Med Surg nursing unit. This full-time night shift position supports clerical and secretarial functions, patient record management, and communication with nursing staff.

Applicants with a unit secretary course or one year hospital experience are preferred; CPR/first responder readiness may be required. Training will be provided as needed.

Responsibilities

• Carries out secretarial and clerical duties for the nursing unit.
• Communicates patient requests to the nursing staff promptly.
• Orders and charges for supplies and equipment.
• Schedules procedures and examinations with appropriate departments.
• Notifies consults when ordered (physicians, classes, etc.).
• Maintains patient records and operates the computer system efficiently.
• Processes patient classification data manually or via computer.
• Removes medications from the delivery system and gives to nursing staff promptly.
• Other duties as assigned.
