Responsibilities

  • Audits employer payroll records to verify wage report accuracy and identify deductible income.
  • Reconciles discrepancies in audited amounts and reviews personnel records to verify work history, separation reasons, and eligibility issues.
  • Conducts in-depth claimant interviews regarding work history, separation reasons, deductible income, availability, ability to work, and work search efforts.
  • Reviews and analyzes UI claim documents for compliance with state and federal laws, agency policies, and quality standards.
  • Prepares case summaries documenting relevant facts, findings, and the basis for identified errors.
  • Converts case findings into coded data for entry into the U.S. Department of Labor database.
  • Presents evidence and provides testimony at Administrative Law Judge hearings and civil court fraud prosecutions.

ORS Specialist 1/2/3/4

The ORS Specialist 1/2/3/4 position is responsible for conducting audits of unemployment insurance claims to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and agency policies. Duties include reviewing records, interviewing claimants and employers, analyzing evidence, identifying discrepancies or errors, and initiating appropriate corrective action.

OUIA oversees Louisiana’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, which provides temporary financial assistance to eligible workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own. The office manages the full UI lifecycle, including employer tax collection, benefit claims processing, fraud prevention, and appeals.

AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:

Three years of experience in unemployment insurance, workforce development programs, workers’ compensation, administrative services, or social services; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
