Job summary

Chester County Intermediate Unit in Pennsylvania seeks an itinerant Orientation & Mobility Instructor to support visually impaired students from ages 3 through 21 across Chester County schools during school hours.

The role requires assessments, development of O&M IEP goals including travel by public transport, and direct instruction while collaborating with families and staff to ensure safe, accessible navigation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Orientation & Mobility is required.
• ACVREP Certification is required.
• Current police, child abuse, and FBI fingerprints are required.
• Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government is required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessment of student with visual impairment to evaluate strengths and needs for safe navigation, including cane and equipment.
• Develop Orientation & Mobility (O&M) IEP goals, including public transport and community travel for blind students.
• Provide direct O&M instruction based on the students' IEP goals.
• Consult with school personnel to ensure supports and accommodations for safe travel throughout school environments.
• Consult with families so they can support travel skills.
