SEIU Local 503 in Salem, Oregon seeks a Field Organizer to empower members and build leadership across the union and community. You will support organizing efforts, contract administration, and political action while training and developing rank-and-file leaders.

The role emphasizes active member engagement, outreach across state lines, and collaboration with stewards to advance strong public services and social justice. Travel and field work are required.

Competenze

• Experience in organizing, bargaining, contract administration, political action, leadership identification and development.
• Demonstrated commitment to empowering workers through the labor movement.
• Experience working for social justice as an organizer or activist.

Mansioni

• Organizing (internal and external); political action; training and education; assist leaders/officers in their responsibilities.
• Preparation for and negotiation of collective bargaining agreements; ratification of contracts; including work action preparation and recruitment.
• Contract interpretation; grievance handling and preparation and presentation of arbitration cases; setting up communication systems for organizing, bargaining, contract enforcement, and political action.
• Advise members on the steps to be taken to resolve issues; organize members to take action around such issues where appropriate.
• Preparing printed materials for distribution to the membership; training members to interface with the media.
• Internal and external organizing training, Union Steward training, leadership training and development, political action training, negotiations training, special workshops, and coordination of officer/leadership duties.
• Political action: door-to-door canvassing, phone banks, issue campaigns, candidate campaigns, informing the membership, get-out-the-vote drives.

General Description:

Withsharedvisionandpurpose,wewilldriveorganizationalchangeandeffectivenessthroughafocus on staff and team development, accountability, and equity and inclusion.

The principal role of fieldorganizers is to support andfacilitate member leadership and action.Program responsibilityfororganizing,communications,contractadministration,unionadministration,bargaining, political action, rank-and-file leadership development and interaction with the membership to further established union policy.

EssentialFunctions& Responsibilities:

• Organizing(internalandexternal);politicalaction;trainingandeducation;assistleaders/officers in the performance of their responsibilities.


• Preparationforandnegotiationofcollectivebargainingagreements;ratificationofcontracts; including work action preparation and recruitment.


• Contract interpretation; grievance handling and preparation and presentation of arbitration cases; setting up communication systems (personal and telephone) for distribution of informationandmaterialsfororganizing,bargaining,contractenforcement,andpoliticalaction.


• Advisemembersonthestepstobetakentoresolveissues.Organizememberstotakeaction around such issues where appropriate.


• Preparingprintedmaterialsfordistributiontothemembership(leaflets,newsletters,etc.); training members to interface with the media (newspapers, television & radio).


• Internal and external organizing training, Union Steward training, leadership training and development, political action training, negotiations training, special workshops (retirement, Workers'Comp,health&safety,discrimination,etc.),andcoordinationofofficer/leadership duties.


• Politicalaction:door-to-doorcanvassing,phonebanks,issuecampaigns,candidatecampaigns, informing the membership on the issues and candidates, targeting candidates, targeting precinctsforcandidateraces,voterregistration,questionnairesandsurveysoncandidatesand issues; get-out-the-vote drives.

Qualifications :

• Experienceorbackgroundwhichdemonstratescapabilitiesinorganizing,bargaining,contract administration, political action, leadership identification and development, and motivating people to take action.

Group2-Requiresoccasionalliftingandexertionforshort periods

Office and field work involving travel to all areas of the state - sometimes with overnight stays - in a varietyofenvironmentalconditions.TheworkweekisMondaythroughFridayplusweekendworkwhen specificallyassigned.Theworkdaymay begin beforeand extendbeyond normaloffice hoursdepending on the demands of the assignment.

Pay and Benefits:

Organizing positions provide comprehensive fully paid health, dental and vision benefits for employee and eligible dependents, domestic partner benefits, generous holiday and vacation policies, a monthly car and cell phone allowance, and a 15% employer-paid defined contribution 401K. Compensation range is based on experience $79,380.00 - $115,452.00 annually.
