Job summary

The University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure‑eligible position as an Organic Biogeochemist in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, based in Lexington, KY. The appointment is 12 months with ~80% research, 15% teaching, and 5% service, beginning July 1, 2027.

The candidate will build a nationally recognized program focusing on agroecosystems, aquatic systems, and carbon cycling, employing advanced analytical techniques including mass spectrometry.

Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in soil, earth, environmental, aquatic sciences, or related areas.
• Desirable post-doctoral experience in biogeochemistry and analytical chemistry.
• Strong written and oral communication skills required.
• Expectation to obtain extramural funding for a vigorous research program.

Responsibilities

• Develop a nationally and internationally recognized program in organic biogeochemistry with emphasis on agroecosystems and aquatic ecosystems.
• Collaborate with department researchers and across campus on carbon cycling and environmental fate of organics.
• Teach graduate courses in environmental organic analytical chemistry and applied mass spectrometry; undergraduate biogeochemistry/climate courses.
• Provide service to department, college, university and professional societies.
