Job summary

SPL is seeking an Analytical Chemist for its Reading, PA environmental laboratory. You will perform organic analyses with GC-MS and LC-MS/MS, generate defensible test data, and maintain compliance within QA/QC standards. You will contribute to method development, instrument maintenance, and audits while supporting client requirements and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related scientific field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.
• Experience with QA/QC analysis, data review, root cause analysis, corrective action, and method development.

We’re seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to join our environmental laboratory team in Reading, PA.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality analytical results while working hands-on with advanced instrumentation such as GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. You’ll interpret complex analytical data, troubleshoot methods and instrumentation, support method development and optimization, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the laboratory. You’ll also help maintain strong QA/QC standards, investigate issues through root cause analysis and corrective action, and ensure results are accurate, defensible, and compliant with established requirements. What You’ll Do

• Perform organic analysis using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and other applicable analytical instrumentation and methodologies
• Generate accurate, defensible data in compliance with QA/QC standards and client requirements
• Document and manage analytical data in LIMS, ensuring traceability and regulatory compliance
• Support method development, validation, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and analytical methods, and support investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Perform instrument calibrations, quality control checks, and preventative maintenance
• Support internal and external audits, including preparation and response to findings
• Develop, review, and update SOPs to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Assist with training and supporting laboratory staff on methods, instrumentation, and procedures
• Communicate analytical results and provide technical interpretation as needed
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support laboratory and client needs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related scientific field
• 5+ years of professional hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and related systems
• Demonstrated experience with QA/QC analysis, analytical data review, root cause analysis, corrective action, method development, and CAPA
• Proficient in LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

Schedule & Work Environment

• Full-time, on-site role; Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM
• Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as needed
• Routine handling of environmental samples (including wastewater and soil) and laboratory chemicals; appropriate PPE is provided and required
