Job summary

SPL is seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to join our Reading, PA laboratory team. You will perform organic analysis using GC-MS and LC-MS/MS, generate defensible data, and ensure QA/QC standards are met. You will manage data in LIMS, support method development, troubleshoot instrumentation, and assist in audits and SOP updates.

The role emphasizes analytical excellence, method optimization, and collaboration across cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable environmental testing results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.
  • Experience with QA/QC analysis, data review, root cause analysis, corrective action, method development, and CAPA.

Responsibilities

  • Perform organic analysis using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and other applicable instrumentation.
  • Generate accurate, defensible data in compliance with QA/QC standards and client requirements.
  • Document and manage analytical data in LIMS, ensuring traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Support method development, validation, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and methods, and assist with investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Carry out instrument calibrations, quality checks, and preventive maintenance.
  • Support internal and external audits and respond to findings.
  • Develop and update SOPs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist training of laboratory staff on methods and instrumentation.

We’re seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to join our environmental laboratory team in Reading, PA.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality analytical results while working hands‑on with advanced instrumentation such as GC-MS and LC-MS/MS. You’ll interpret complex analytical data, troubleshoot methods and instrumentation, support method development and optimization, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the laboratory. You’ll also help maintain strong QA/QC standards, investigate issues through root cause analysis and corrective action, and ensure results are accurate, defensible, and compliant with established requirements. What You’ll Do

  • Assist with training and supporting laboratory staff on methods, instrumentation, and procedures
  • Communicate analytical results and provide technical interpretation as needed
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support laboratory and client needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related scientific field
  • 5+ years of professional hands‑on experience with analytical instrumentation, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and related systems
  • Demonstrated experience with QA/QC analysis, analytical data review, root cause analysis, corrective action, method development, and CAPA
  • Proficient in LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

Schedule & Work Environment
  • Full‑time, on‑site role; Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as needed
  • Routine handling of environmental samples (including wastewater and soil) and laboratory chemicals; appropriate PPE is provided and required
