Job summary

SPL is seeking an Analytical Chemist in Reading, PA to support organics and PFAS testing in our environmental laboratory. You will perform analytical testing, method development, and data validation on water and wastewater samples to deliver accurate, regulatory-ready data.

The role emphasizes instrument expertise (LC-MS/MS/GC-MS), QA/QC rigor, data integrity in LIMS, and collaboration across teams to drive method optimization and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on analytical lab experience performing PFAS/organic testing using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, or GC instrumentation.
  • Experience with QA/QC analysis, data review, root cause analysis, corrective action, method development, and CAPA.
  • Proficient in LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Perform PFAS and organic analysis using LC-MS/MS and applicable instrumentation.
  • Generate accurate data in compliance with QA/QC standards and client requirements.
  • Document and manage analytical data in LIMS, ensuring traceability and regulatory compliance.
  • Support method development, validation, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and analytical methods and support investigations.
  • Perform instrument calibrations, quality control checks, and preventative maintenance.
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation and response to findings.
  • Develop, review, and update SOPs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with training and supporting laboratory staff on methods and procedures.
  • Communicate analytical results and provide technical interpretation as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support laboratory and client needs.

We’re seeking an experienced Analytical Chemist to support organics and PFAS testing in our environmental laboratory in Reading, PA.

In this role, you will perform analytical testing, method development, and data validation on water and wastewater samples for PFAS and other organic analytes, ensuring the accuracy and quality our clients rely on for regulatory compliance and decision‑making. Using advanced extraction techniques and instrumentation, you will generate precise, defensible data in a fast‑paced laboratory environment. You will also contribute to method optimization and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining data integrity within LIMS and adhering to QA/QC standards to deliver reliable, high‑quality results.

What You’ll Do

Requirements

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related scientific field
  • 3+ years of hands‑on analytical laboratory experience performing PFAS and/or organic testing using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, or GC instrumentation
  • Demonstrated experience with QA/QC analysis, analytical data review, root cause analysis, corrective action, method development, and CAPA
  • Proficient in LIMS and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

Schedule & Work Environment
  • Full‑time, on‑site role; Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as needed
  • Routine handling of environmental samples (including wastewater and soil) and laboratory chemicals; appropriate PPE is provided and required
