Position Summary

The Order Fulfillment Equipment Operator position supports the operational objectives of the automated $1B company’s 1.8 million square foot Distribution Center (DC).

This position supports the Picking department by ensuring accurate, efficient, and safe handling of products. The operator uses Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), RF scanners, and the WMS to pick and stage orders while upholding ULAC’s safety and quality standards. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment, performing routine maintenance checks, and supporting the overall operation of the picking department

Functional Responsibilities
  • Direct Daily Operations
    • Operates power industrial trucks such as but not limited to sit down, cherry picker, turret, pacer, and clamp. Other equipment used to move pallets throughout the distribution center includes electric pallet jack and manual pallet jack. Pickers are expected to operate with all of the above-mentioned equipment used within the Picking department.
    • Picks, moves, and stacks full pallets with equipment from storage picking locations and stages in specific locations for production and/or Value-Added Services (VAS).
    • Picks and sorts merchandise into totes from active picking locations using carts ensuring accurate waves are sent to production and/or VAS.
    • Accurately picks, moves, and stages merchandise per picking waves while using an RF scanners to maintain system integrity.
    • Picks and stages products for various departments including Production, E-Commerce, and VAS/Ball Inflation.
    • Verifies and audits all paperwork and merchandise to ensure accuracy and completeness of all waves being picked.
    • Ensures pallets are stacked safely and merchandise is transported and stored in an organized, damage-free manner.
    • Practices safe and reasonable care when operating all equipment by conducting daily pre-operation inspections to identify any potential issues or safety hazards.
    • Performs general housekeeping duties within DC to ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment by following 6 S standards.
    • Utilizes and understands various forms of technology, such as radios, RF scanners, and computer devices in support of the operation.
    • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the operational needs of the company.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Communicates clearly with the team members, Lead, and Area Managers to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
    • Participates in shift huddles, safety meetings, and improvement discussions.
    • Shares best practices and contributes to a supportive team culture built on trust and accountability.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements to enhance productivity, accuracy, and safety.
  • Adapts to changes in workflows, equipment, and procedures in a rapidly evolving DC environment.
  • Maintains a competitive environment while fostering compliance initiatives which push fellow team members to rise to the challenge.
  • Participates in training and implements objectives learned in all areas of the distribution center.
  • Continuing Education
    • Engages in ongoing training on equipment, systems, and best practices in automated fulfillment.

    • Maintain all required certifications for PIT operation and safety compliance.
Education/Qualifications
  • REQUIRED
  • o High school diploma or equivalent.
  • o Ability to operate or learn to operate PIT equipment safely and effectively.
  • o Ability to demonstrate proficiency by passing the Picking Department training program.
  • o Ability to read, interpret, and execute tasks via RF scanners or pick tickets.
  • o Capable of sustained physical activity including walking, lifting, bending, and working at heights.
  • o Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
  • o Comfortable using or learning WMS, scanners, and computer-based tools.
  • PREFERRED
  • o Some college coursework or continued education post high school.
  • o Proficiency in WMS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • o OSHA certification or previous PIT operator training.
Experience
  • REQUIRED
  • o 1+ year of experience in a distribution center, 3PL, or warehouse environment.
  • o Demonstrated PIT operation experience with at least one type of equipment.
  • o Proven ability to meet productivity, accuracy, and safety performance goals.
  • o Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • PREFERRED
  • o Proficiency in operating multiple types of PIT equipment (order picker, turret, clamp, reach, etc.).
  • o Experience in an automated or high-volume e-commerce distribution center.
