Job summary

Ryerson in Missouri is seeking an Order Assembler to support safe, productive operations in a fast-paced metals environment. You will follow order specifications, assemble materials for shipment, and help keep the work area organized.

Successful candidates will demonstrate reading and math skills, experience with hand tools, and, if available, SAP or crane/forklift experience. Onboarding includes an apprenticeship program.

Qualifications

• Skills-based assessment covering reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem solving.
• Forklift experience preferred.
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists or hooks).
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material.
• SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines according to orders and specifications.
• Select material from heats or for physical condition per orders.
• Record heat numbers, weights, lengths and other details on orders as required.
• Unload, receive material and place into stock or designated areas; record data on receiving tickets.
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards for each job assignment.

As an Order Assembler at Ryerson, you will be responsible for keeping the work area safe and productive. Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed on a daily basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assemble material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on orders
• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders
• Count, weigh, record heat or test numbers or symbols, list random lengths and other necessary information on orders as required
• Unload and receive material, weights, counts, check sizes. Identify by color and heat or test numbers. Place into stock rack or designated areas. Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documents
• Perform tallying, stamping, sorting and re-oiling as required
• Maintain safety, quality and productivity standards of each job assignment
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Certified fork truck experience preferred
• Crane experience preferred (sheet lifter, chains, slings, hoists, or hooks)
• Experience with hand tools for banding and packaging material
• SAP experience preferred
• Understand work order packaging specifications
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
