Job summary

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is seeking a Recording Engineer to assist the Lead Recording Engineer in managing all recorded and electronic media activity at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood.

Responsibilities include recording and live sound for concerts, rehearsals, and broadcasts, maintaining high-resolution recording systems, and supporting the archives with metadata and preservation tasks. Candidates should have a degree in audio recording and at least 3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years related experience in recording classical music.
  • Bachelor's Degree in audio recording/editing/mixing.
  • Knowledge of orchestral recording techniques.
  • Ability to read music and follow an orchestral score.
  • Experience with television and radio production is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • With Lead Recording Engineer, manage all BSO audio recordings to ensure quality.
  • Assist in upgrades to recording and live sound systems and secure file transfer.
  • Maintain recording infrastructure and plan future system upgrades.
  • Configure networked audio systems (AoIP) for stable transmission.
  • Record and engineer concerts, assist outside engineers for broadcasts.
  • Provide audio feeds to press and support promotional assets.

3+ years experience in classical music
Read orchestral score
Communication with production staff
Live recording/streaming fundamentals

Education

Bachelor's Degree in audio recording/editing/mixing
