Newtown Dentistry in Newtown, PA is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team. The RN will assist with procedures, provide IV access, monitor sedation, and deliver safe, high‑quality perioperative care in a private office setting alongside the oral surgeon.

This daytime role features no evenings, weekends, on‑call, or travel between offices, with per diem flexibility and a path to full‑time for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in PA and graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• PALS certification or willingness to obtain
• 1+ year of clinical ICU/ED/PACU/peri‑operative nursing experience
• Proficient IV insertion and IV medication administration
• Strong assessment, airway management, and emergency response skills

Responsibilities

• Review patient history, medications, allergies, and NPO status; report anesthetic risk to the surgeon
• Obtain baseline vitals and pre‑op assessments
• Initiate IV access for procedures with sedation
• Ensure informed consent and escort presence
• Educate patients on procedure expectations
• Monitor patient status during/after procedures and report changes

Registered Nurse (RN) – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Department: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Reports To: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon / Clinical Lead

About the Position

Looking for a procedural nursing role that offers daytime hours, no evenings, no weekends, no on‑call, and no travel between offices — and the opportunity to work side by side with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon?

Newtown Dentistry is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join the clinical team of our oral and maxillofacial surgery department. The Registered Nurse will work closely with the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and surgical assisting staff to deliver safe, high‑quality care to patients undergoing surgical procedures with intravenous and deep sedation, in a private office‑based setting within our multi‑specialty dental facility.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, sound patient assessment, and confident emergency response skills.

Key Responsibilities

Pre‑Operative Care

• Review patient medical history, medical clearances, medications, allergies, and NPO status, and report anesthetic risk factors to the surgeon.
• Obtain and document baseline vital signs and pre‑operative assessment findings.
• Initiate and maintain peripheral intravenous (IV) access for patients undergoing procedures with sedation.
• Confirm informed consent and verify the presence of a responsible adult escort.
• Educate patients on procedure expectations.

Anesthesia Support and Patient Monitoring

• Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures in an outpatient setting, including cardiac monitoring, oxygen saturation, and capnography.
• Continuously assess patient vitals and communicate any changes in condition to the surgeon.
• Administer medications and intravenous fluids as directed by the surgeon and within the Pennsylvania registered nurse scope of practice.

Post‑Operative Care and Discharge

• Monitor recovery and respond to complications or adverse reactions.
• Apply established discharge criteria and ensure patient readiness for release to the escort.
• Provide verbal and written post‑operative and medication instructions to the patient and escort, and ensure patient understanding.

Safety, Compliance, and Clinical Support

• Maintain strict adherence to OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry standards.
• Ensure emergency equipment and medications are readily available and up to date, and participate in scheduled office emergency drills.
• Respond effectively and confidently to medical emergencies, including airway management and basic and advanced life support.
• Document all patient interactions, surgical details, medication administrations, and vital signs accurately in the electronic health record.
• Collaborate with the oral surgeon, surgical assistants, and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
• Assist the surgeon chairside and support instrument sterilization, operatory turnover, and inventory of clinical supplies and medications as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

• Active Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, or willingness to obtain.
• One or more years of clinical experience in critical care (ICU), emergency (ED), post‑anesthesia care (PACU), procedural sedation, or peri‑operative nursing.
• Demonstrated proficiency in peripheral intravenous insertion and intravenous medication administration.
• Strong patient assessment, airway management, and emergency response skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; professional, dependable, and patient‑focused.
