Job summary

New Haven Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in East Haven, CT is seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant to join our team.

You will work alongside experienced surgeons in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment, assist with extractions and implants, administer IV sedation under supervision, and ensure sterile technique and accurate documentation.

The ideal candidate has prior surgical or dental assisting experience, BLS/CPR, radiography certification, and a calm, compassionate chairside manner.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a surgical assistant, dental assistant, or oral surgery assistant.
• BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS certification a plus.
• Dental radiography certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist oral and maxillofacial surgeons during surgical procedures including extractions, implants
• Prepare and maintain sterile surgical fields and instrument trays
• Monitor and support patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures
• Administer and assist with IV sedation and anesthesia protocols under surgeon supervision
• Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed
• Maintain accurate patient records and document clinical notes in practice management software
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments and equipment in compliance with OSHA standards
• Educate patients on post-operative care and recovery instructions
