Summary

The Dental division of Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking a full-time Oral Surgeon. The successful candidate will be experienced and competent in all phases of OMS. They will work collegially with other dentists and physicians and should possess interpersonal and professional skills to work with residents in OMS, other dental specialties, and Advanced Education in General Dentistry.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA employees who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable.
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Residents in accredited programs or those with equivalent experience may be eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only perform certain duties under supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred: Degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine or Surgery, board certification or eligibility in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, completion of an approved OMS residency.
• Physical requirements will be assessed during pre-employment evaluation.

Duties

• Perform dentoalveolar surgery, complex dental extractions, and treat orofacial infections and trauma.
• Conduct pre-prosthetic surgery, implant placement, and treat orofacial pathoses and fractures.
• Manage temporomandibular dysfunction, reconstruct oral facial anomalies, and perform cosmetic and functional surgeries including rhinoplasty, septoplasty, blepharoplasty, and orthognathic procedures.
• Include grafting procedures and harvesting of graft material.
